Millions of women could be compensated for the government’s failure to inform them about changes to the age at which they could claim their state pension.

Between 2010 and 2018, the state pension age gradually increased to 65 for women, bringing them in line with men. By 2020 it had risen to 66 for both men and women.

On Thursday, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman published a long-awaited report saying the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) failed adequately to communicate the changes to the women affected.
