Handy Brit transforms tiny cupboard into stunning gaming room – but there’s a problem
A crafty homeowner wowed social media users after they transformed their closet into a little gaming room – but the post divided opinion as some spotted a key issue
A proud Brit has left people in awe with a stunning transformation of his cupboard into a gaming room.
Taking to Reddit‘s DIYUK subreddit, the handy chap shared several snaps of the fruits of his labour, leaving others impressed. The user described the room as a “haven” to escape his “destructive toddler” – the perfect mini man-cave.
“I’m not great at DIY, but I converted a little closet into a small gaming space,” he said. “A wee closet above our stairs, we weren’t using it so I converted it into a wee gaming space as a haven from our destructive toddler!”
The confined space previously contained a shelf, a coat rail and an ironing board, while before shots showcased the gradual progression into the finished product. Gone were its previous contents – replaced by picture frames and an electric guitar.
Further additions included a TV and Xbox One console, positioned opposite a comfy-looking bench and place to store gaming accessories including headphones and controllers. A fellow gamer gushed in response: “Really nice and a great use of the space. I’d be very tempted to get a steering wheel set up in there and a VR headset.
“It would go perfectly and you’d lose any claustrophobia. You could get a great mini 5.1 set up in there too for surround sound. Even add a bass transducer under the seat for extra realism.”
Another added: “That is freaking awesome. I’m so jealous, it must have been fun to build too!” Meanwhile a third chimed in: “Honestly, good on ya. You say your not great at DIY but you did this and it looks great. Nothing needed more than a getaway from the kids and that’s speaking from experience (dad of 3 little sugar bandits).”
Elsewhere, some users spotted a problem – claiming the lack of ventilation could cause issues. “Looks very nice,” one person said, before adding: “You’ll find your performance in the game is affected by CO² when you keep the door closed, i.e. you’ll feel more sleepy, because it’s such a small space. I recently bought one of those air quality monitors and it’s surprising how co2 shoots up in a small room with a door closed.”
A second agreed: “Be careful with ventilation in there with the door closed, don’t go falling asleep.” Another advised: “2 vents, one at the bottom and one at the top. Air will naturally flow as hot air rises and draws cool air at the bottom.”
And a fourth moaned: “Ventilation: Humans inhale oxygen. Humans exhale CO2. Without a proper ventilation system, you’ll inhale recycled air, mostly CO2. I needn’t say how detrimental that is to your health. Again, I stress the importance of a proper ventilation system!”
