‘My daughter’s dog ripped my wedding dress to shreds – she claims it’s my fault’
A distraught mother has revealed how after refusing to give her wedding dress to her daughter for her own big day, the gown managed to get ruined by rambunctious dogs and destroying their relationship
Some brides choose to pass their wedding dresses down through their families, mother to daughter, aunt to niece but many want to keep that special gown sacred. A token of their big day, safely wrapped up for preservation.
A mum who revealed she had refused to give her wedding dress to her daughter to be customised has now shared a devastating update. Earlier this month the anonymous mother asked for advice on whether she was in the wrong for not allowing her adult daughter to have her wedding dress as it held huge sentimental value to her.
Despite believing the matter had been resolved, she revealed that her daughter decided to get malicious revenge, which has caused irreparable damage to their relationship. Sharing her sad story on social media, the woman explained that she thought she had got through to her daughter and made her understand her position. She wrote: “I suggested that we could meet up with the seamstress and make a similar dress and I could help with the embroidery since it’s what takes time and patience. She agreed.

“Friday when I was out, my daughter went home to me. She has two dogs and they were with her. Anyway, the dress was ruined. According to her, she didn’t see anything, she took out the dress to take pictures and she “guess she left it out” and the dogs ripped it apart. I was shocked when I saw my dress in my bedroom ripped into pieces. “I started sobbing but my daughter said that I was exaggerating like it was her fault when it wasn’t. She just shrugged me off and said to get help because I was being creepy. My husband asked her to leave.”
The following day, the mum revealed that her daughter had called her up crying saying that she felt her mum was blaming her for what happened. She went on: “She thought that I hated her now because of a dress. I said that I didn’t hate her and would never do that. I love her.
“Later, my sister called me to talk and she then asked me that now I might as well give the parts that weren’t ruined to my daughter so the dress could at least be useful. I agreed and my daughter came in the evening to pick up the embroidered parts. She stayed in the car while her fiancé came to pick up the dress.” She finished: “I am not angry or anything. Just feel terrible sadness. My mother’s memory is more than a dress or any material things. She’s always in my heart. I just miss her very much all the time.”

People reading the Reddit post were horrified at the daughter’s behavior and implored the woman to speak to a therapist. One person replied: “You are being awfully manipulated… Please find some help, what your daughter did to you with the help of her aunt and fiancé is awful. Don’t let them abuse you, you are worth way more than this.”
Someone else reasoned: “[It] feels like she did it on purpose. How long did she leave the dog out with the dress? Do her dogs have a habit of destroying clothes? I have dogs and while my dogs may try to sleep on my clothes, they do not… They have not ripped up my clothes.”
